Construction gravel and aggregate
, or simply “aggregate”, is a broad category of coarse particulate material used in construction, including class 5 gravel, sand, twin cities driveway gravel, crushed stone, limestone gravel, slag, recycled concrete and geosynthetic aggregates.
Aggregates are used in construction and landscaping to provide drainage, fill voids, protect pipes, and to provide hard surfaces. They are also useful for water filtration. Water will percolate through a trench filled with aggregate more quickly than it will through the surrounding soil, thus enabling an area to be drained of surface water, useful in wet or marshy areas, or to provide a solid base in driveways, which have a tendency to be too soft for vehicle transit.
